Spirare Surfboards is supporting our film - Thanks Kevin!

Another innovative creator on board

Posted in Every Board Has A Story

We had our eye on Spirare from the beginning of the concept for this film.  I always appreciated Kevin's philosophy on design and sustainability. With my background in Industrial Design I really loved his way of thinking about products as being "art".

"I make functional art — art that is designed to get wet.

Not the functional art of a chair designed to rest comfortably in a living room and not the precious commodity of stainless silverware on a dining room table, but functional art that rides the waves and carries a passenger. And as a designer and an artist I feel the need to make this art have meaning, aesthetic beauty and sustainability."

-Kevin Cunningham

Kevin also has this to say; "Surfers traditionally respect the ocean and environment and actively work to protect it, yet we ride surfboards that are made from highly toxic materials that are a hazard to both the people who make them and the environment.

Spirare Surfboards explores innovative surfboard design using alternative materials and methods to make highly functional pieces of fine art that emphasize green design and sustainable construction."

We are excited to have Kevin backing this project, and I have to say that on a personal note I am looking forward to Kevin's process of building his boards, and of course the chance to ride one!  In particular the Quad Fish.

Remember, we can't do this without your help.  Please make a contribution here.
